A Little Break

You may have noticed I haven't done many cakes lately. That's because a miracle happened in our lives! We adopted a beautiful baby boy at the end of November, and I am just enjoying my time with him right now. I appreciate the phone calls and interest I've had lately. I'm so sorry I have had to turn you away for now. Check back in a month or two, but for now, I am not taking cake orders. Thank you!

10th Anniversary Cake

My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary last week!

I wanted to bake him his favorite raspberry flavored cake. It needed to look romantic and simple, and anniversary-ish. :) I was happy with how it turned out, and the raspberry cake with raspberry buttercream is really soooo delicious.

Wouldn't this be such a pretty Valentine's Day gift?

Mom's 50th Birthday

My mom had a big birthday recently! She loves german chocolate cake, and so we decided to do a top layer of german chocolate cake and decorate a bottom layer with fondant to represent different parts of her personality. This may be one of my very favorite cakes I've done before, and it was so fun to do it for someone I love so much!

My mom is amazing with plants and loves to garden,

She loves her family. And she loves to shop!

She is a woman of faith.She is an amazing librarian and an excellent teacher. I used the books to list all of her personal "titles."She loves hiking and completed a huge backpacking trip this past summer!

She is gorgeous, and is always put together.

Happy Birthday, Mom. You are so amazing!! I love you!

Piano Wedding Cake

The couple that ordered this wedding cake had the cutest story ever! The bride is a piano teacher, and the two met when the groom signed up to take piano lessons - now they are married! What a sweet story. They wanted a wedding cake to represent their history together, and so we decided on a piano keyboard for the bottom layer. They requested that the middle layer have the music to Theme From Love Story - wasn't that a romantic idea? The top layer we experimented with, but in the end, I think the piano keyboard repeated tied the cake together best. This bride and groom have excellent taste, as they chose my very favorite cake flavors - pumpkin cake with cinnamon cream cheese frosting and raspberry cake with raspberry buttercream frosting. The whole cake was also covered and decorated with marshmallow fondant. I cut and served the cake at the reception, and it was fun to hear all the comments about how delicious the cake tasted, and see many people come back for seconds. Not a piece was left at the end of the night! Catherine and Aaron - I wish you the very best of luck. Congrats on a beautiful wedding!

Monogrammed Sugar Cookies

I was asked to make these sugar cookies for a wedding reception. The mother-of-the-groom ordered them. Her idea was to individually wrap them and hang them in a tree for guests to take as they left - how cute is that idea??
I'm disappointed in how my camera failed to capture the colors of these cookies. They were the cutest summery orange and pink, to match the reception colors.

I sampled one of the extra cookies, and was reminded again why I love this recipe. It is such a yummy, soft, buttery cookie - absolutely delicious!

I hope the wedding reception was wonderful and that the guests loved their monogrammed sugar cookies!

Winnie the Pooh Cake

A sweet little boy was celebrating his first birthday, and his mom wanted a Winnie the Pooh cake for the special occasion! She chose a square cake on the bottom with an adorable color and pattern combination, topped with a round cake. I made the round cake into Winnie the Pooh's honeypot, and added a number 1 and flowers on the top.

Winnie the Pooh sat on top for the birthday baby.

The cake was a yellow cake, with raspberry jam filling between layers, and buttercream frosting. Marshmallow fondant covered the cake. I hope that the party was a huge hit!

Rainbows & Butterflies Baptism Cake

This cake was made for a beautiful little girl on her baptism day. I felt so lucky to be a small part of her special day!

I'm disappointed with the poor lighting/shadows in my photos. Just know the cake turned out even cuter and brighter than the pictures give credit for. :)

The top layer was milk chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling and raspberry buttercream frosting, covered in marshmallow fondant.

The bottom layer was a triple berry cake with buttercream raspberry filling and frosting, covered in marshmallow fondant.

Pirate Cake

Drama Cake

I was asked to make this cake for a Drama Club Award Ceremony. I was given the logo from a T-shirt to mimic, which included the PHS and rabbit picture. (Apparently Harvey is a rabbit from a play, and the awards are called the Harvey Awards!)

My favorite part? These fondant drama masks that my talented husband sculpted for me. :) We placed them on very front of the cake.

The cake was a butter pecan flavor with a almond buttercream frosting. I hope the students loved it!

Triple Berry Cupcakes

I've added a new flavor recently to my repertoire - triple berry!

I know I always say this, but this may truly be my favorite flavor. ;) I use real fruit in the batter and it bakes into this gorgeous purply color. My camera doesn't do the color justice.

I made a batch of triple berry cupcakes for a church event last night. I frosted them with a raspberry buttercream icing and added a fresh berry on top. I got TONS of compliments, including one woman who repeatedly told me they were, "The best cupcakes I've ever eaten in my LIFE!" It made my night! ;) Thank you!

I think this flavor is great anytime, but especially yummy for those summertime events coming up!

Pink Swag Cake

This cake was ordered for a Young Women activity for my church. They wanted something that resembled a 'mini' wedding cake. I decided to experiment with the fondant swag, and really like how it turned out.

The top layer was lemon with buttercream frosting. The bottom layer was a chocolate fudge cake with buttercream frosting.

Spring Cupcake Collage

I made this cupcake collage for my spring piano recital. It was a huge hit! There were five different flavors: golden orange, raspberry, chocolate, lemon, and cherry chip. I used a buttercream frosting for all of them. Everyone LOVED them!

Easter Egg Cookies

I really love making sugar cookies. So I'm always excited to get a cookie order! This past week got an order to make some Easter egg sugar cookies. I had a lot of fun making the colorful patterns on each cookie.

Adoption Cake

Our family is very passionate about adoption. In fact, we are working on adopting a baby ourselves! (Take a minute to click on our adoption button on the right!!)

So, when I was asked to make a cake for the FSA (Families Supporting Adoption) Area Conference, I was really excited to do it. The theme for the conference was Hearts Knit Together. I used the theme and this flier to design the cake:

The top layer of this cake was raspberry flavored, with a raspberry buttercream filling and icing. The middle layer was a white cake filled with the raspberry buttercream and frosted with a vanilla buttercream. The bottom layer was a chocolate fudge cake with a chocolate ganuache filling and a vanilla buttercream icing. All the levels were covered with my homemade marshmallow fondant, and all the decorations were also made from fondant.

Girly Girl Cupcakes

A sweet aunt ordered a dozen cupcakes for her young niece - just because. :)

The niece loves chocolate and pink and purple.

These are chocolate fudge cupcakes with a chocolate ganuache filling. The pink frosting is a strawberry buttercream. The purple frosting is a vanilla butter frosting.

I decided to put bows, flowers, and hearts on the cupcakes to make them extra cute. These decorations are made from marshmallow fondant. The little pearls are also edible.

Architecture Student Cake

This cake was made for my husband, who is a grad student studying architecture. This was for a review presentation he had where he needed to provide some food. For the books, I imitated real books he was using this semester.

This was a really fun cake to make! The bottom cake was a yellow butter cake covered in vanilla buttercream frosting. The top cake was a chocolate cake covered in creamy chocolate frosting. Everything was covered with marshmallow fondant and the details were made out of fondant. Everything on this cake is 100% edible.

Tyler & Taylor's Wedding Cake

Tyler and Taylor chose a very elegant design for their wedding cake. It was perfect to match their gorgeous and elegant outdoor reception!

The top three layers of this cake were chocolate fudge, with a creamy chocolate filling. It was covered in an orange-flavored buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant. The black swirls are completely edible and hand-painted on the fondant. We saved the top layer for the bride and groom and served the other two chocolate layers at the wedding. The bottom layer is actually styrofoam, to make the cake look larger while saving money and not having excess cake. :)

Wedding Reception Cupcakes

I didn't get a great picture of these, but Tyler and Taylor (see wedding cake above) served 300 cupcakes at their wedding reception. There were three flavors: vanilla cupcakes with a cherry baked into the middle, frosted with almond buttercream frosting / chocolate fudge cupcakes with a creamy chocolate filling and frosted with creamy chocolate frosting / spice cupcakes with an orange buttercream filling and a frosted with orange buttercream. Each cupcake was frosted with a rosette on top:

Mummy Cake

I made this little mummy cake for my daughter's Halloween party.

The kids LOVED it!

The cake is a chocolate fudge cake with a orange buttercream icing. The mummy wrappings and eyes were done with marshmallow fondant. I snuck a bite, and it was very yummy!

Star Wars Cake

I'm disappointed in my photo-taking skills with this cake - the pictures didn't turn out so well. But I made this Star Wars cake for a 5-year-old boy's birthday party! His mother had some Star Wars figurines that she wanted to put on the cake below the stars, which is why they are up so high. ;) This was a chocolate fudge cake covered in buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant. The birthday boy loved it!

Army Groom's Cake

I made this groom's cake for the rehearsal dinner of a wedding. The groom had graduated from army cadet training only the week before, so they wanted some camouflage on the cake as well as the bride and groom represented. I think it turned out quite cute!

The top layer of this cake was chocolate fudge filled with a chocolate ganuache, and covered with chocolate buttercream frosting. The bottom layer was a vanilla cake filled with chocolate ganauche and covered with chocolate buttercream frosting. The camouflage, bride and groom are all made from fondant.

This was my first groom's cake, and I thought it was so much fun. I've decided I LOVE groom's cakes!

Autumn Piano Recital Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes for my recent autumn piano recital. I thought they turned out very pretty, and sooooo yummy!

There were five different cake flavors: chocolate fudge, vanilla, strawberry, spice, and cherry. The frosting flavors were vanilla, almond, vanilla-orange, chocolate-orange, and chocolate. My personal favorite combination? Chocolate fudge cupcake with vanilla-orange frosting, or vanilla cupcake with chocolate-orange frosting. My husband's favorite: spice cupcake with almond frosting. Delicious!

Fondant-fetti Birthday Cake!

I made this cake for two good friends celebrating their birthday together! The information I was given is that Elizabeth loved the color pink and Katie loved brown, and they both wanted a chocolate cake. So, this is what I came up with!

I made a chocolate fudge cake with chocolate ganauch filling covered in a chocolate buttercream frosting. Then I made marshmallow fondant decorations, including all the little twisty confetti, which were so fun, in white, brown, and two shades of pink. I put Katie's name on one side of the cake:

So fun! I was happy with how it turned out. And, since the birthday girls also happen to be some of my best friends, I got to eat a piece of the cake. Chocolate heaven.

Mini Wedding Cakes

A lady recently contacted me with the idea of making miniature wedding cakes for each of the girls in her church youth group. They were having an activity about marriage, and thought the cakes would be a fun addition. I had such a great time making these tiny (4-inch) cakes and decorating them! Each cake was vanilla in flavor. I iced them with vanilla butter cream frosting and added white fondant daisies on the top. I think they turned out really cute, and I hope the girls loved them!

I tried to make them similar while also having each cake be unique and a little different from the others. Here are some close-ups of a few individual ones:

Larissa's Wedding Cake

I made this wedding cake for a very classy bride. She was so fun and easy to work with, and had such great taste. She chose a 3-tier buttercream cake. She wanted a striped texture in the frosting, which I thought was a nice effect.

The bottom layer is a vanilla cake with a chocolate ganuche filling. The top two layers are chocolate fudge cake with the chocolate ganauche filling. I served the cake at the wedding, and heard lots of compliments. Congrats, Larissa, and thanks for letting me part of your special day!

Retirement Party Cake

This cake was made for a retirement party for my in-laws. It was a particular challenge, because I had to put this cake together while out-of-town on vacation, but I think it turned out in the end! It was one of my favorite flavor combinations: almond cake, almond buttercream icing and raspberry filling. The decorations on the cake were made from fondant and modeled after my in-laws.

Filled Strawberry Cupcakes

I am so obsessed right now with filled cupcakes.

Mmmmmm... cupcakes were already delicious, but then add some gooey yumminess in the middle and they are heavenly!

My new favorite cupcakes are these filled strawberry cupcakes. Aren't they pretty?

Moist strawberry cake, topped with my buttercream icing and filled with gooey strawberry filling made from fresh berries.

These would make the perfect dessert for a special summer occasion!

School Bus Cake

This school bus cake was so much fun to make! It was made for a little boy's 2nd Birthday! The birthday boy really loves school busses, and so his parents wanted an authentic-looking bus cake that also highlighted Taylor and the fact that he was turning 2!

Both the license plates had Taylor's name on them. I also used the back of the bus to highlight the number 2!

Happy Birthday Taylor and the bus # 002 were written on the side of the bus.

This was a German chocolate cake covered in chocolate buttercream icing and then covered and decorated in marshmallow fondant. Unfortunately, the birthday boy was sleeping when I delivered the cake, so I hope he loved it and had a great birthday!

Orange Dream

This cake was also made for the bake sale to raise money for the young boy with cancer. I must say, this is one of my new favorite flavor combinations; it was delicious! The cake was a 6-inch, two layer vanilla cake, covered in my new frosting flavor - orange buttercream. It has a light orange flavor that reminds me somewhat of an orange dreamsicle. Very light, very summery, very yummy! The white icing is also the orange buttercream; it comes out white and can be died any color. I colored this a light orange to fit the flavor.

Li'l Gift

This sweet little cake was made for a bake sale that was being held to earn money for a young boy with cancer. The cake was a 6 inch round lemon cake with an orange butter filling and covered in buttercream frosting, covered in marshmallow fondant. YUM!

Birdy Cake

This sweet cake was made for a very sweet little birthday girl. I love the theme of birds, flowers, and butterflies! I also love the colors of this cake and think it turned out very sweet.

The cake was vanilla flavored with vanilla butter cream frosting and covered and decorated with marshmallow fondant. The cake was a 4-inch tall, two-layer 6-inch round on top of a 4-inch tall, two-layer 8-inch round.

And aren't those flowers fun?!

Bright 16th Birthday

I made this cake for a 16th birthday party! It is a half-sheet sized cake. The birthday girl is a 100% vanilla girl, so the cake is a vanilla cake topped vanilla buttercream frosting. The order was to include bright colors and flowers, and make it fun. I really like how the design turned out in the end!

Piano Recital Cake

Besides being a cake decorator, I am also a piano teacher! I made this cake for my most recent piano recital. Each of the 26 students' names were somewhere on the cake, which they thought was awesome. The round part of the cake was a chocolate fudge; the sheet cake section was butter pecan. The whole cake was frosted with butter cream frosting. The musical decorations were made from marshmallow fondant. It must have tasted good, because every last bit was gone by the end of the night! :)

This cake was a "one-hour" cake, but for being so rushed I think it still turned out okay. I made it for my friend on her birthday, but my day ended up being extra busy, hence the (less than) one hour I had to decorate it. :) The cake was a butter pecan flavored cake topped with buttercream icing. 50th Birthday Cake

I made this cake for a 50th birthday party for one of my friend's moms. The birthday lady loves the color blue, and her birthday is in the springtime, and so this is what I decided to do. The cake is a german chocolate flavor covered in creamy chocolate frosting (a family member is allergic to coconut!) and then covered in marshmallow fondant. Yum!

I also added a few chocolate cupcakes on the side.

My husband is studying to be an architect, so I made this cake for him to take in for a class presentation. I love making cakes with lots of fun little details like this! Everything on this cake is edible. The paper, square, compass, and pencils are all made from fondant. The floor plan is one my husband created for a school assignment. The cake was a white cake with creamy chocolate frosting.

Race Car Cake

This funfetti cake was made for a birthday boy that loves race cars! The cake is covered in buttercream frosting. The checkerboard top and the birthday banner are made from fondant. Everything is edible (even the grass) except for the toys cars. Happy Birthday, Nathan!

I made this castle cake for a very picky customer: my daughter! ;) She wanted her cake to be all chocolate and she wanted it to be a princess castle. This is how it turned out:The cake was a fudge chocolate cake covered in a creamy chocolate frosting. All other adornments on the castle were made from fondant. Since I tasted this cake myself, I can say it was very yummy! :)

I think this turned out very cute, but wouldn't this look fabulous covered in white fondant with pink, green, and purple decorations?

MVHS Poms Banquet Cakes

I had a customer order two half sheet cakes for a high school poms banquet. These cakes were so much fun to make! My customer had a pretty specific vision of what she wanted these cakes to look like, and she seemed very excited and pleased when I delivered them. I thought they turned out very cute! One of the cakes was vanilla and the other chocolate. Both cakes are covered in butter cream frosting with fondant decorations.

Rose Cake

This birthday cake was ordered by a husband for his wife; he loves to give her roses and wanted that to somehow be represented in the cake. We all loved how the cake turned out. The cake is a butter pecan cake with chocolate frosting, covered in chocolate fondant. The roses and borders are made of marshmallow fondant.

They are hard to see, but I love the fondant ribbon border with the little buttons on the left hand side . . . it's those cute little details that I love! Hope your birthday was wonderful, Leslie!

Valentine's Day Cookie Bouquets

I made and sold these Valentine's Day cookies this year. I think they were a huge hit! These soft homemade cookies are made from the best ingredients using a delicious family recipe. The frosting is an almond butter glaze. Having the cookies on sticks gives a fun, whimsical effect that is sure to bring a smile to anyone's face! I had one customer quote, "These are the best sugar cookies I think I've ever had in my life!"

Although I made these particular cookies for Valentine's Day, I think cookie bouquets are so cute and so delicious that they have potential for almost any occasion! Birthdays, anniversaries, office gatherings, congratulations, thank you gifts, baby or wedding showers, Christmas... the possibilities are limitless!

Christmas Recital Cakes

I made these three cakes for my Christmas piano recital. The red cake was cherry chip flavored with vanilla frosting. The chocolate cake was chocolate fudge flavored covered with a rich chocolate frosting. The green cake was half cherry chip / half chocolate (my favorite, SO yummy!) and covered with a vanilla icing. I used a different texture for each cake, and was pleased with the results.

This picture didn't turn out very well, but the cake was still very cute!. This Elmo cake was for a 2nd birthday party. The cake was a moist lemon cake with a vanilla frosting. I was told it was delicious, and that the birthday girl loved it!

Last week, a lady in my neighborhood asked me to decorate the cupcakes for her son's 10th birthday party. When asked for a theme, she told me that her son was getting his scuba diving license for his birthday - something he was thrilled about! I thought and thought about how to fit a scuba diving theme on a small cupcake, but couldn't figure it out. So I made my first cupcake cake. The cupcakes were cherry chip and lemon with vanilla buttercream frosting.

Pumpkin Cake

I made this pumpkin-shaped cake for a Halloween party! The cake was half butter pecan and half funfetti. It is covered in vanilla buttercream frosting. The pumpkin stem, leaf, vine, and spider were made of marshmallow fondant. Happy Halloween!

I made this mini-cake for a friend's September birthday. The cake is a butter flavored cake. The leaves are made from marshmallow fondant, but the rest of the cake is covered in butter-vanilla frosting with chocolate frosting writing and border.

Square Wedding Cake

I really love the look of the square layer wedding cakes! This cake looked very elegant in the beautiful old-fashioned reception hall. The top layer is carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. The middle layer is chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. And the bottom layer is almond butter cake with almond frosting. The entire cake was covered in marshmallow fondant and decorated with a dark chocolate frosting.

This cake was made for a 17-year-old track athlete. It was a rainbow chip cake topped with buttercream frosting. Surrounding the cake was one girl sprinting, one throwing the shot put, and one jumping. The little athletes are made from fondant, as are the flags and stars, and are modeled to look like the birthday girl! This was a really fun cake to make!

It was a white cake with white fondant with a vanilla frosting filling.

It was also served at the wedding reception. I make my own fondant, so it really tastes delicious coupled with the creamy frosting underneath.

The rest of the frosting is a vanilla frosting with a funfetti cake. The second cake was for another friend's birthday. It was a fudge chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and a fondant bow.
